Kamil Sipowicz

Journalist, historian of philosophy, painter. President of DNA Research Institute.

Interview:

Seemingly work in DNA Research Institute is not connected with art. Do you, as an artist, find there inspiration for art creativity?

Genetics has inspired me in an artistic way and has found its place in my book of poems "Swider metafizyczny". There is a poem about chromosomes, alleles etc. As Stachura said: everything is poetry.

Are you an enthusiast of illustrated publications for mature readers? Do you think that illustration could bring in something new or take away the main function from the written word?

Good illustration gives a breath to literature. Not long ago I prepared collage for the cover of my book about Heidegger: I scanned a famous oil painting of Hitler and replaced his head with a broken sculpture of Greek philosopher Plotyn. The effect was shocking. All the more so because that book is titled "Degeneration and unauthenticity".

Have any of your paintings/pictures ever been used as illustrations?

My pictures illustrate Kora's poetry book called "Cracow spleen", my mandalas were used by a psychological magazine.

Together with Kora you participate in many art events - exhibitions, shows, auctions. How do you find modern 'young' art in Poland?

Young Polish art has great energy and the world likes it. Careers of Sasnal, Kozyra, Żmijewski, Libera speak for themselves.

Is there any book, which had influence (positive or negative) on you in childhood because of illustrations, graphic design?

Looking back on my childhood, I recall some poems for children about months illustrated by Szancer. His art has influenced many generations.
